Australia, often referred to as the Land Down Under, is more than just a land of kangaroos and koalas. It has been a popular tourist destination for a very long time now. Surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans, it is often called the ‘island continent’ and is also considered the world’s largest island. It is an unexpected place of long beaches, vast ochre plains, and rugged mountains. The world’s largest coral reef, the Great Barrier Reef, lies off the north-east coast and sprawls over 2,000 kilometres. You can view rock art more than 20,000 years old in the Kakadu National Park, admire the azure waters of Rottnest Island, watch the majestic southern right whales along the Great Australian Bight, or simply gaze at the iconic sites of Sydney Harbour. If you crave thrills, head to the wildlife parks outside of Brisbane (Australia Zoo) and Darwin (Crocodylus Park). The capital city, Canberra is Australia’s largest inland city. It is home to significant social and cultural institutions such as the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National University, the National Gallery, the National Museum and the National Library. Canberra’s Commonwealth Park hosts Floriade,  a flower and entertainment festival held annually, featuring extensive displays of flowering bulbs with integrated sculptures and other artistic features.

Sydney is one of Australia’s largest cities and is famous for its harbour front Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Located 7 km east of Sydney is the iconic white sand crescent shaped Bondi Beach. This world-famous beach has surf and sand, glitzy bars and cafés, markets and boutique street stalls. The best time to visit is from September to November and from March to May. The currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD or A$) which equals INR 48-52(fluctuates).
