Lovable East Africa
East Africa was formed by the East African Rift, which split Eastern Africa into East Africa and Horn of Africa. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda fall within this region. The two tallest peaks in Africa are in this region, Mount Kilimanjaro in northeastern Tanzania, and Mount Kenya. East Africa also boasts of the world’s second largest freshwater lake, Lake Victoria, and the world’s second deepest lake, Lake Tanganyika. The climate of East Africa is a combination of the region’s generally high altitude and the rain shadow of the westerly monsoon winds created by the Rwenzori Mountains and Ethiopian Highlands. It is surprisingly cool and dry. Tanzania and Kenya have grasslands renowned for large migratory herds of gnus, zebras, gazelles, lions, hyenas, and leopards. The beauty of untamed Africa can be enjoyed at the Masai Mara and the Serengeti, unspoiled by human presence. The best months to visit are July to November, during the dry season. Currencies in use in the region are, Kenyan shilling (KSh), Tanzanian shilling (Tsh), Ugandan shilling (USh), Rwandan franc (RFr), Burundi franc (BFr).
