Impressive Laos
Laos is the only country in Southeast Asia which is landlocked. The capital and largest city of Laos, Vientiane, is on the banks of the Mekong River. It is home to the most significant national monument in Laos, That Luang or the great Sacred Stupa. Another significant Buddhist temple, Haw Phra Kaew which formerly housed the Emerald Buddha, is also in the capital city. Laos experiences a tropical savannah climate, with tropical monsoon and humid sub-tropical climate in some places. The rainy season is from May to November, with a dry season from December to April. The best time to visit Laos is between October and April, when the weather is warm and dry throughout. However, if you are looking at river adventures, the best time is between November and January. Laos, like other Southeast Asian countries, is vulnerable to climate change with almost all provinces at high risk from climate change. In spite of this, Laos leads in ecotourism in Southeast Asia. It offers a chance to experience the ‘real Laos’ with a village home stay. This not only helps contribute to the local community but also preserves the environment. The really adventurous tourists can lose themselves in underground river caves, on jungle ziplines or while climbing karsts. Those who like to relax in the lap of nature can take a walk on the wild side and spot exotic animals. Laos offers a rich cultural experience as well, with ancient temples all over and the magical UNESCO World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang. The currency is Laotian Kip (LAK or ₭) which equals INR 0.0078-0.0080 (fluctuates).
