Unexciting Uruguay
Uruguay is a country in South America that lies between Argentina to the west and Brazil to the north. It has a South Atlantic Ocean coastline and is a prime Latin American vacation spot. Punta del Este and satellite towns La Barra, Manantiales and Jose Ignacio are go-to beach destinations along the Atlantic coast. The largest city and the capital is Montevideo, where colonial architecture rubs shoulders with low-rise skyscrapers. Musts include picturesque Ciudad Vieja and Barrio Sur neighborhoods in the city. Another not to miss is the sleepy riverside town, Colonia del Sacramento which is one of Uruguay’s oldest towns. The town of Carmelo is located upriver and surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. You will be entertained with water sports, golf, horse racing and polo. Fruity, tannin-high Tannat is Uruguay’s star grape and many wine producers, wine and dine their visitors in glorious settings.
The climate in Uruguay is temperate, with mild winters and hot summers. It also rains throughout the year. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the sun shines and temperatures are mild. The currency is the Uruguayan Peso (UYU or $U) which equals INR 1-3(fluctuates).
